Several area teams made state Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken League state tournaments.

16-18 League

The Parsons Bleacher Gear-Kansas Mobile Homes team finished in third place in the state Babe Ruth tournament in Lyons last week. Lyons was the champion and Riverton finished in second place.

Game 1, July 11

Jake Mattox pitched five innings for Parsons and collected six strikeouts. Peyton Semrad pitched two innings to finish up the game.

Offensively for Parsons, Kyle O’Connor singled twice. Tyler Drisdell, Blake Palmer and Martin Woldham each singled for Parsons. Sam Vratil received the WOW Award and Klein Ryan earned the MVP Award.

Game 2, July 12

Sam Vratil pitched five innings for Parsons. Blake Palmer pitched the final two innings.

Offensively, Sam Vratil doubled and singled. Jake Mattox singled twice. Klein Ryan, Austin Ryan and Tyler Drisdell each singled. Jake Mattox earned the WOW Award and Sam Vratil earned the MVP Award.

Game 3, July 12

Tyler Drisdell pitched four innings and Peyton Semrad pitched two for Parsons.

Game 5, July 13

9-Year-Olds

The Parsons Babe Ruth All-Stars competed at the state tournament in Garden City last week and finished in third place.

In pool play, Parsons defeated Fort Scott 20-10 and Garden city 26-2 on July 11.

Parsons lost to Cimarron River 9-8 on Saturday and then defeated Derby 14-4. On Sunday, Parsons defeated Columbus 6-4, advancing to bracket play on Monday.

Parsons lost to Columbus, the eventual champion, 13-3 on Monday. Parsons defeated Fort Scott after that to earn a third-place finish.

11-Year-Olds

The Labette County All-Stars competed in the state tournament at Garden City last week as well, finishing in third place.

In pool play, Labette County defeated Cottonwood Valley 3-2 on July 11. On July 12, Labette County defeated SPIAA 7-4 and lost to eventual state champion Quivira 13-5.

On July 13, Labette County defeated Stevens County 6-1 and defeated Newton 13-0.

In bracket play on Monday, Labette County lost to Quivira 4-2 and then defeated Stevens County 15-0 to earn the third place finish.

MVP Award winners for Labette County were: Andre Appleton, Eli Adkins, Andrew Jameson, Andre Appleton, Zach Spriggs, Zach Spriggs, Jackson Gilpin.

WOW Award winners were Lance Teal, Ryan Gartner, Ian Eaton, Ryan Gartner, Ian Eaton, Ryan Gartner, Andre Appleton.

12-Year-Olds

Labette County 12-year-old All-Stars competed at the state tournament in Columbus last week. The team was eliminated in two games.

In game one, Gas Capital defeated Labette County 16-0. In game two, Haysville defeated Labette County 12-2. SPIAA was the eventual winner of the tournament.

MVP Award winners for Labette County were Gabe Johnson and Brennden Graham.

WOW Award winners were Ethan Jameson and Jace Wilson.

13-Year-Olds

Parsons’ 13-year-old All-Stars earned a spot in the state tournament, which starts Friday at Haysville. Parsons finished in second place in the district tournament at Oswego, losing to eventual champion Columbus 19-14.

Luke Wolgamott, Connor Eichinger, Luke Wolgamott, Joel Schibi and Connor Eichinger were MVP Award winners for Parsons in district play. WOW Award winners were Joel Schibi, Gage Woodward, Zach McCarty, Connor Eichinger and Luke Wolgamott.

Parsons will play Mid-Kansas at noon Friday in the first game.
