EUREKA — Kelsi Lantz joined her head coach and four other Cherryvale Chargers alumni in the 1,000-point club in Thursday’s 59-43 loss to Eureka.
Lantz led the Chargers with 15 points en route to crossing the four-digit threshold.
“It was a very proud moment,” Lantz said. “But it was a dull moment too, because that was a big game for us. It’s still a huge accomplishment and I wouldn’t be here without the team. I love all of them.”
Cherryvale head coach Kelsey Overacker, herself a member of the 1,000-point club for the Chargers, added her sentiments.
“Ever since she was a freshman, you know she’d get her name up in the gym,” Overacker said. “She can score inside and out and run in transition. Her understanding of the game and ability to score is something that was really big for her.”
The loss for Cherryvale snapped a five-game winning streak for the Chargers and was its second in Tri-Valley League play. Eureka secured the league title with the win.
“The score doesn’t really tell the tale of the game,” Overacker said. “Our kids came out and battled all night, We got in some foul trouble and didn’t get some shots to fall that we normally hit. It was good to see at team like this late int he season to see where we are at.”
Cherryvale is 14-4 overall and is one game ahead of Frontenac for the top seed in the sub-state tournament.
