A 12-0 hole to start Friday night’s game proved to be difference in the Parsons Vikings’ 48-36 loss to the Independence Bulldogs.
Independence started the matchup with a 12-0 run that was the final margin.
“We turned the ball over three of our first four possessions and that was a difference,” Parsons head coach Pat Schibi said. “We spotted them 12 and that’s what the final margin was. We don’t spot them those 12 points, it’s a different game.”
Rebounding was a deficiency for the Vikings.
“A lot of rebounding is effort,” Schibi said. “We’ve got to do a better job. You can’t have three out of five boxing out, you have to have all five boxing out to get the rebound. That was the difference.”
Rylie Reichenberger led Indy with 13 points. Iniya Hinman paced Parsons with 16 points while Sydney Schibi added 14.
“We need to get Sydney going earlier,” Pat Schibi said. “She only had 2 points in the first half.”
Parsons was also without senior guard Briona Patterson, who missed the game with a health issue. Patterson is expected to be available for the Vikings’ next game.
“We found out an hour before the game that we wouldn’t have Briona and that changed the gameplan,” Schibi said. “The other girls have to be ready to step up at any point.”
The win for Independence avenged one of its only two losses this season as the Bulldogs improved to 16-2 overall. Parsons dropped to 13-6.
