Regional boys golf tournaments teed off around the state on Monday, with Labette County and Parsons competing in Chanute while Erie traveled to Fredonia.

At the Chanute regional, Labette County placed second with a team score of 360 to qualify its entire team to the KSHSAA 4A State Tournament.

Jack Leake placed third with a score of 80 for the Grizzlies. Ryan Gartner was seventh with an 86. Trey Mathis placed 13th with a 96, Eli Hestand was 15th with a 98, Ben Smith 18th with a 100 and Dakota Payne was 27th with a 111. 

As for Parsons, Andrew Farris earned an individual bid to the state tournament by finishing 10th with an 89. 

Ethan Good finished 22nd by shooting a 108. Aidan Marks placed 32nd with a 118.

Fort Scott won the regional team title, shooting a team score of 354 strokes. Chanute placed third (373), Anderson county fourth (391), Independence fifth (412) and Coffeyville sixth (478).

Cole Wheeler of Chanute won the individual regional title with a 77, shooting two strokes better than second-place finisher Nicholas King of Fort Scott. 

As for the KSHSAA 3A Regional in Fredonia, Erie placed third with a team score of 432 strokes. The Red Devils narrowly missed out on a second place showing, which would have qualified the entire team to the state tournament, as Girard shot a 430 to finish two strokes above Erie.

Caney Valley won the regional team title with a score of 369. Galena took fourth (511), Baxter Springs fifth (535) and Riverton sixth (561). 

Erie’s Mark Bogner earned a bid to the state tournament by finishing third in the tournament with a score of 83. 

Red Devils teammates Ayden Fisher finished in 12th with a 113, Trey LaRue took 16th with a 117, Trevor Yarnell was 18th with a 119, Caype Johnston took 28th with a 141 while Brayden Yarnell finished 35th (159). 

Caney Valley’s Trevor Watson won the regional title with a score of 77, placing five strokes ahead of Cole Wagner from Girard, who took second. 

The KSHSAA 4A State Tournament is scheduled for May 20 at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, while the 3A tourney will be a Emporia Municipal Golf Course on May 20.
