OSWEGO — Chetopa-St. Paul notched two more wins in Oswego on Tuesday night, defeating Crest 2-1 (18-25, 25-14, 25-14) and Oswego 2-0 (25-11, 25-19).
In the win over Crest, Josey Harris paced Chetopa-St. Paul with 11 kills while MacKaylie Moore and Claire Bradshaw added eight and Elise Doherty had six.
Doherty had four aces and three blocks as well. Katie Carter had 18 assists and Kenna Doherty had 12 assists.
“We started off, once again, sluggish,” Chetopa-St. Paul head coach Jill Blackledge said. “It seemed we didn’t know where we were at and that cost us the first set against Crest. We finally woke up a little bit and battled back to win the second and third set. The things we work on in practice and talk about before the game have got to be executed. We know that we have to communicate on the floor and we didn’t do that in the Crest game.”
In the sweep of Oswego, Harris again notched eight kills while Elise Doherty had seven.
Reese Haney had four aces, Katie Carter had 10 assists and Kenna Doherty had six assists.
The wins for Chetopa-St. Paul improved its record to 15-7 overall on the season.
“The Oswego game was much better. It’s amazing how a team can turn around when you communicate and play as a team,” Blackledge said. “We have one of the most athletic, smart and strongest teams out there but we have to show it every single set. I am proud at how well they came out against Oswego.”
Chetopa-St. Paul plays Riverton and Galena in Chetopa on Thursday.
“Here’s to hoping we continue to push and keep working for Thursday’s games,” Blackledge said.
