Two more matches for the Labette Cardinals left the same result as the first 16 of the season. Labette dropped to Independence on the road on Friday before being swept at home on Monday by NEO A&M, leaving the Cardinals winless at 0-18 on the year.
In Friday’s road match, Labette was swept by the Pirates 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19).
Katelynn Wissman and Alexis Kapales both led the Cardinals in the match with eight kills apiece. Zhanisha Tounsel added two kills, while Josey Weimer, Madeline Smith and Rileigh Vail had one kill.
Hannah Spriggs led Labette With 16 assists, while Tessa Newman had 18 digs. Vail also added 10 digs to her night’s tally.
As a team, Labette notched a .140 kill percentage in the match, 12 points higher than its season average (.022).
For Independence, three players amassed double-digit kill totals. Patricia Seller had 13 kills, while Natasha Colon chipped in 11 with Mar Danes adding 10.
Hanna Rios led the Pirates with 42 of her team’s 47 assists, while Jonidsha Guerrido had 16 digs.
As for Monday’s home loss, NEO A&M swept Labette 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-16).
Kapales tallied 13 kills, her third-highest mark of the season, in the loss to NEO for the Cardinals. The freshman added four digs to her night’s work.
Local Labette County High School product Laci Strickland was second on Labette’s roster with three kills on the night. Ania Howard, Tounsel, Wissman and Weimer all had one kill apiece.
Spriggs led Labette with 11 assists while Howard added four. Newman and Vail paced the Cardinals with eight digs apiece.

Still searching for its first win of the year, the Cardinals face a tough task at home on Wednesday as they face KJCCC foe Johnson County, the fifth-ranked team in the NJCAA polls.
