HIGHLAND — A second half comeback fell five points short for the Labette Cardinals as they fell to the No. 15 Highland Scotties 73-68 on Wednesday in KJCCC play.

Bryson Dennis led the Cardinals with 18 points off the bench while Ghage Kenan added 16.

Zyon Smith and Denzel Knight both led Highland with 19 points.

Labette trailed the ranked Scotties by 15 at halftime and clawed its way back into the game. But poor 3-point shooting (7-of-30) and a spotty day at the free throw line (19-of-34) kept the comeback just out of the Cardinals’ reach.

Highland also out rebounded Labette 53-35.

The Scotties improved to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in KJCCC play with the win, while Labette dropped to 7-5 and 1-1 respectively.

Labette is scheduled to take on Fort Scott at home on Saturday with tipoff set for 4 p.m.
