SEK League supremacy continues to belong to the Labette County Grizzlies as they extinguished the Pittsburg Purple Dragons 50-36 on Thursday night before ousting Fort Scott 41-33 on Friday.

Madison Brannin led the Grizzlies with 14 points in the win over Pittsburg while Anna Dean and Lauren Forbes chipped in nine apiece.

“Real proud of the girls,” Labette County head coach Kristi Snider said. “Our effort was great after one day of prep. It was a very physical game tonight, but we seemed to handle that well.”

In Friday’s win over Fort Scott, the Grizzlies were slow out of the gate as they went into halftime down 19-13. But a 14-3 third quarter in favor of Labette County flipped the night’s script.

Dean had 12 points while Brannin added 11.

“I’m so proud of these kids and their toughness,” Snider said. “We came out slow and flat, missing shots. However, we didn’t lay down and pushed back. We were probably a little sluggish after last night, but we talked about no excuses.”

With the two wins, Labette County is now 13-2 overall and, more importantly, 8-0 in SEK League play. The Grizzlies have a stranglehold on first place as Pittsburg, which is in second, is sitting at 5-2 in the league.

The Grizzlies face Adair out of Oklahoma on Tuesday night at home.

IN THE BOYS GAME…Labette County dropped a close tilt to Fort Scott on Friday by a score of 49-46.

Eli Hestand led the Grizzlies with 20 points.

Fort Scott overcame a 12-4 deficit through the first quarter and went into halftime up 18-16.

The loss dropped Labette County 6-9 overall and 4-4 in SEK League action. The Grizzlies boys also host Adair on Tuesday.
