Playing their second game in as many days, the Parsons Vikings girls lost to Mulvane 69-53 at home on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped Parsons’ record to 0-3 heading into winter break.

The Vikings were bitten by the turnover bug against Mulvane, which allowed transition points the other way.

“We definitely know we have to improve our transition defense and stopping the ball,” Parsons head coach Pat Schibi said. “Maybe it’s we need to get in better shape. We played a game on Friday and our legs aren’t all the way back. But at least we’re getting to play. The girls are getting better every day and that’s all we can ask.”

Freshman Sydney Schibi led Parsons with 31 points, including seven 3-pointers, in a blistering performance that coupled efficiency with volume.

“She’s one of our best shooters and we expect her to shoot the ball,” Schibi said. “The same way we expect others to shoot when they’re open. Sydney has a good shot and when she gets hot, she can knock them down. We’ve got to get more balance in there because they’ll start keying on her.”

Karlie Kanaga led Mulvane with 17 points.

Saturday’s game was a make-up date from the remote T-Bird Classic, which Parsons missed due to a team-wide quarantine.

“It definitely affects the rhythm,” Schibi said. “We got going for a few days and now we’re off until after Christmas. It’ll be starting over again come January. It’s definitely been hard to stay in rhythm.”

The Vikings have now lost 23 straight games dating back to a sub-state championship game that ended the 2018-19 season.

“We’ve got to get better with the ball,” Schibi said. “We turn the ball over too many times because we’re not making the right passes or meeting the passes well. We’ll keep improving and stay positive. Good things are down the road.”
