COLUMBUS — Four Cherryvale girls reached double-figure scoring in the Chargers’ 75-49 blowout of the Columbus Titans on Thursday night.

Mariah Monroy paced Cherryvale with 24 points while Kelsi Lantz, Morrigan Catlin and Jailee Reister added 13, 11 and 11 points respectively.

Columbus held a 16-13 lead through the first quarter before the Chargers outscored the Titans 24-8 in the second period.

“Tonight was a pretty good night for us. We haven't gotten to play in almost a week so the girls were ready to get back at it,” Cherryvale head coach Kelsey Overacker said. “We did a great job of following our game plan and making adjustments when they hung with us early. We've been focusing on putting a team away once we get a lead, and I was very proud of our effort to do that tonight. Any CNC team is going to be tough, and we stepped up to the challenge.”

Cherryvale, now 10-4 on the season, returns to Tri-Valley League play next week with three games. The slate starts with a home tilt against Caney Valley on Monday.

IN THE BOYS GAME…Cherryvale was held scoreless in the first quarter as Columbus won 58-50.

Landon Bennett led Cherryvale with 21 points while Briggs Adkison added 11.

“Lots of mental mistakes tonight,” Cherryvale head coach Rodney Vigil said. “We were unable to get things going consistently on the offensive end and struggled with foul trouble.”

Cherryvale dropped to 10-4 with the loss. The Chargers face Caney Valley in Tri-Valley League play on Monday night.
