CHERRYVALE — Coming off a long winter break extended by a COVID-19 quarantine, the Cherryvale Chargers boys dominated Neodesha 64-23 on Friday night.

Landon Bennett led the Chargers with 13 points on the night while Briggs Adkison added eight.

Cherryvale held Neodesha to 11 points in the first half, setting the tone for the rest of the night.

“The kids played hard on the defensive end,” Cherryvale head coach Rodney Vigil said. “I felt like we hit the boards really well tonight on both ends. It enabled us to transition into some easy looks. We shared the ball and had balanced scoring.”

With the win, the Cherryvale boys improved to 2-1 on the season. The Chargers boys travel to Cherokee to take on Southeast on Monday.

IN THE GIRLS GAME…Kelsi Lantz finally returned to form for Cherryvale as she scored 24 points en route to a 54-48 win for the Chargers.

Mariah Monroy also dropped 16 points for Cherryvale.

“Tonight started off just how we wanted it and expected it to,” Cherryvale head coach Kelsey Overacker said. “We have several weapons and we have the depth to run the floor all night. We saw what we wanted to in the first quarter. Kelsi and Mariah came out and got us going like e needed.”

With the victory, Cherryvale improved its record to 3-1.

“I was a little disappointed in the rebounding area just because we should never get out-rebounded,” Overacker said. “But I’m excited about getting a week in between games so we can break down some film and really get ourselves comfortable in what we’re doing. We needing this win and we got it.”

Cherryvale’s girls get a week off before playing Humboldt on Friday.
