IOLA — The Labette County Grizzlies capped off a perfect week of volleyball with a championship at the Anderson County Tournament — the Grizzlies’ side of the bracket was held in Iola.

Labette County defeated Girard 2-0 (25-12, 25-19) and Wellsville 2-1 (25-13, 18-25, 29-27) before beating Iola in the championship game 2-0 (25-23, 25-19).

“Super proud of our team as we battled after a long week,” Labette County head coach Heather Wilson said. The Grizzlies went 6-0 over six matches in the week.

Over the three matches of the tournament, Anna Dean led Labette County with 39 kills while adding 41 digs, 11 blocks and four aces.

Karsyn Steward had 20 digs, 15 kills, three blocks and as many aces. Shelby Wilson had a team-high 87 assists to go along with 24 digs, eight kills, five blocks and three aces.

Lauren Forbes also added 12 kills and three blocks.

“Our kids battled back in several moments and showed a lot of character, staying positive in the tough situations,” Wilson said. “We passed really well and we were smart out of system. I think we were a lot of fun to watch as we didn't let much hit the floor today.”

Labette County is now 21-7 overall on the season. Labette County hosts a league set of matches on Tuesday where the Grizzlies will play Fort Scott and Parsons.
