CHERRYVALE — A week removed from a heartbreaking loss that saw a league title slip through their fingers, the Cherryvale Chargers’ season ended with a 67-51 loss to the Frontenac Raiders in the first round of the KSHSAA 3A Sub-State Tournament.
Stetson Hempel-Schafer led Cherryvale with 14 points while Danny Vigil added a dozen points.
Cherryvale led by three but trailed by seven going into halftime. Frontenac won both the third and fourth quarters to keep the Chargers at bay.
“The kids competed the whole game,” Cherryvale head coach Rodney Vigil said. “I thought we rebounded on both ends really well. Our legs got to us in the fourth quarter.”
With the loss, Cherryvale’s season ends with a 14-7 overall record.
“I’m very proud of our season and way our kids responded night in and night out.”
Going into the offseason, Cherryvale replaces three seniors in Danny Vigil, Brock Robertson and Trevin Elam.
