HUTCHINSON — Despite winning Game 1 and getting two tries at advancing to the next round of the NJCAA Region VI Tournament in Wichita, the Labette Cardinals’ season ended at the hands of the top-seeded Hutchinson Blue Dragons over the weekend.

Labette won Game 1 on Friday 4-3 but dropped Games 2 and 3 on Saturday by scores of 13-4, 2-0 respectively.

In Game 1 on Friday, Jordan Graham pitched a gem on the mound for the Cardinals, lasting seven frames and giving up two earned runs with eight strikeouts. Creighton Silvain earned a one-inning save, throwing a perfect ninth frame for the Cardinals.

Labette was paced offensively, by Rustin Postier, who had two hits including a double with two RBI.

For Hutchinson, Cade Fenton ate the losing decision on the hill.

The Blue Dragons rebounded in Game 2 on Saturday, winning in dominating fashion. Zion Bowlin shined for Hutchinson, notching six RBI, a home run and a double as part of a three-hit game.

Evan Jacoby was charged with the loss for Labette, giving up six earned runs and eight hits over 2.2 innings of work. Landon Lord had two RBI and three hits for the Cardinals.

In the winner-take-all Game 3, Labette notched seven hits as a team but couldn’t push a run across in the season-ending loss.

Hutchinson scored one run apiece in the second and third innings, which proved to be enough cushion to advance to the next round in Wichita. Postier had two hits for the Cardinals, while Dylan Nedved had two hits and a RBI for the Blue Dragons.

Kaden Alexander was charged with the loss on the hill for the Cardinals, while Miguel Reyes earned the win for the Blue Dragons.

Labette finished the 2019 season with a 17-30 overall record after earning the final berth into the NJCAA Region VI Tournament.
