CANEY VALLEY — Mark Bogner took first place at the Caney Golf Invitational on Monday while Erie took second place in the team standings.

Host Caney Valley won the team competition with a score of 417 strokes. Erie took second with 429 while Coffeyville was third at 432.

Coffeyville was followed by Independence (454), Fredonia (460), Baxter Springs (468), Riverton (488) and Eureka (493). 

Bogner finished three strokes ahead of second-place finisher Kyler Eggers of Fredonia as Bogner shot an 83 on the day. Bogner shot 42 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine.

Eggers shot an 86. Other medalists included Caney Valley’s Anthony Rogers (90) and Ethan Dean (97), Coferyville’s Tyler Zimmerman (98) and Zach Becker (105), Baxter Springs’ Peyton Herrenbruck (101), Independence’s Dustin Ficher-Asgari (103) and Mason Messenger (106) and Riverton’s Lane Goodwin (107).

On a windy afternoon, Erie golf coach Bill Ruble was impressed with how his team performed.

“It was some of the worst conditions we played in with the wins going 30 to 40 miles per hour,” Ruble said. 

In addition to Bogner, Erie’s Braydon Yarnell took 16th place (115), Dakota Becker 17th (115), Ayden Fisher 19th (116), Logan Ewan 31st (127) and Gavin Reissig 39th (141).

Chetopa also had one golfer compete with Brandon Kepner taking 26th (124).
