The first citywide spring cleaning event is scheduled for Saturday, Earth Day.
Citizens and civic groups should get behind this worthy event and help clean up the city. Who hasn’t complained about seeing trash along roads in town? This is a chance to do something about it.
The city of Parsons and the Parsons Chamber of Commerce are pushing the effort and Parsons city commissioners supported it by offering a proclamation Monday night. Business sponsors include Commercial Bank, Ace Hardware, Labette Health and Orscheln Farm and Home.
Individuals, churches, civic clubs, school clubs, businesses, scouts, friends and neighbors are encouraged to make this a team challenge and show civic pride by participating.
Those interested should meet at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Commercial Bank parking lot at Central and Main. Wear comfortable shoes and bright colors and gloves are recommended. Children must be supervised.
Donuts, coffee and water will be served while supplies last. After a brief greeting, trash bags and maps designating clean-up areas will be distributed.
A group photo is planned for 9:20 a.m. and cleanup will start at 9:30 a.m. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for April 29.
Anyone who would like to suggest a specific place in need of teams to pick up trash should identify that area by calling the Chamber at 620-421-6500, or emailing email@example.com.
So roll up your sleeves. It’s time to get involved.
