Kudos to the good folks behind the Parsons Gun Club’s progress toward what will be a public shooting range on 25000 Road west of 32nd Street (see story on Page 1 in today’s Sun).
The range will provide a safe environment where families can fire handguns, rifles and shotguns. Firearms instruction is part of the process to get a membership to the club.
The gun range is a great idea.
Gun owners in Parsons and other towns in the county know too well how difficult it is to find a safe place to fire handguns and rifles.
This range will do that with its berms that meet regulations from the National Rifle Association.
Memberships start at $80.
The city of Parsons, which owns the land, is allowing the club to lease the land for the range, where Parsons police officers also train with their firearms.
An open house will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the range, which is five-eighths of a mile west of 32nd on 25000 Road.
Fees collected from memberships go back into the range for insurance and improvements and other costs in operating it.
We hope this range has many years of safe operation.
