To The Sun:
Congratulations to the Parsons area bloodmobile participants for the event held at the First Christian Church on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A total of 126 presenting donors contributed a total of 118 units, exceeding the two-day goal of 114 units. This community should be proud of the support they offer to the Red Cross for the precious commodity that saves lives. I am continually impressed with the friendly, enthusiastic attitudes of those who participate. I would like to encourage others who have never donated to consider becoming active in the program in the future.
I would like to report, for those who are interested, that the flow of appointments and walk-ins was better for this drive. The Red Cross staff did a much better job of integrating the walk-ins with the appointments.
Those reaching gallon levels at this event were: Sandra Womeldorff, seven gallons, Verlene Cornell, three, Jenna Jarman, Richard Shouse and Mary Colson, two, and Mark Lohmolder, Cole Proehl and Marena Fitzwater, one. First time donors were Faith Myers, Rachael Vowell, Lisa Webster and Jaymie Nesbitt. And thanks to the VFW Auxiliary (especially Gina Bowman) for supplying the great cookies for this drive. They were enjoyed by the donors, Red Cross staff and the volunteers.
The next blood drive will be held at the Arvon Phillips Community Center from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 23 and from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 24 and is sponsored by the Labette Community College. Please plan to make time to support this important program, and make an appointment to donate blood to help those in need.
To make an appointment, please call 1-800-REDCROSS, or go on-line to www.redcross.org after Sept. 1. Thank you for your wonderful support of this important activity. — DEAN CRAMER, Parsons bloodmobile coordinator
