GROVE, Okla. — Leroy J. “Bill” Hazen, 90, of Grove, Oklahoma, formerly of St.Paul, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, at Grand Lake Villa in Grove, Oklahoma.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1930, near Walnut, Kansas, to Roy and Gertrude (Panel) Hazen. Leroy grew up near St. Paul and attended Odell Country Schools near St. Paul.
He and Rose (Mullen) Hazen were married on Sept. 6, 1949, at Erie. Rose passed away at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, six hours after Leroy at Grand Lake Villa in Grove. They were united in marriage for over 71 years and blessed into the Catholic Church in 1950.
Leroy worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years for Utility Contractors of Tulsa and for Heat and Power in New York. He retired to the Grand Lake area.
Leroy was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Grove. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Elks Club.
He is survived by three sons, James Hazen and his wife, Connie, of Independence, Michael Hazen and his wife, Pamela, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Roger Hazen and his wife, Sharon, of Vassar, Michigan; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Buford Hazen, and his wife, Pat, of Chanute; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, George and Warren Hazen; and three sisters, Arlene Thornton, Wilma Ward and Verda Jean Hazen.
The funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul with Father Sam Pinkerton officiating. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in St. Paul. The casket will remain closed.
