Janis L. Bruce

ALTAMONT — Janis L. Bruce, 67, of Altamont passed away at 1:33 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2023, at Labette Health in Parsons.

She was born on Feb. 1, 1956, in Parsons to Richard and Claudine (Payne) Barnett. Janis attended elementary schools in Altamont and attended Labette County High School.

Janis attended cosmetology school in Pittsburg and worked as a cosmetologist in the Parsons area before working 30 years at Power Flame. For a time she and her husband, Glen, drove a semi-truck for A&R Transportation from coast to coast.

She enjoyed crafting, sewing and riding the Harley with her husband. She especially loved life and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janis was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 527 Auxiliary.

Janis and Glen Bruce were married on July 4, 1996, in Miami, Oklahoma. He survives of the home.

Survivors include sons, Mike Julich (Tricia) of Altamont and Wayne Johnson (Monica) of Denver, Colorado; daughters, Denise Merchant of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Rebecca Casper of Baytown, Texas; grandchildren, Cody Julich (Brooke), Tyler Julich (Chaneya), Kaysha O’Daniel (Jeff), Sarah Matthews (Aaron), Danielle Thomas (Dustin), Kaitlyn Walters (Dean), Ivy Rosser (Caleb), Samantha Peters and Caleb Johnson; 10 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; sisters, Sharon Boring (Phil) of Parsons, Pam Mahan of Erie and Paula Brady (Bill) of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of life will be from 2 to 6  p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Parsons Elks Lodge, 220 N. Central Ave, Parsons, KS, 67357.
