GALESBURG — Vern Leroy Heilman, 86, of Galesburg died at 8:36 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2019, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born Jan. 27, 1933, at Galesburg a son of Milo and Maude (Compton) Heilman. He was raised in Urbana and attended school there. He graduated from Chanute High School in 1950. He attended Neosho County Community College. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher, working on the family farm.
On June 2, 1957, he married Barbara Bryan. They later divorced. He married Mary Moore on Dec. 23, 2008. She survives of the home.
He was a member of Galesburg Christian Church. He enjoyed farming and dancing.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four daughters, Peggy Davidson of Chanute, Karen Powers of Parsons, Linda Robison and Carol Heilman, both of Olathe; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milo Heilman Jr., who died in 1995, and David Heilman, who died in 2000.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Galesburg Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Frech officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Galesburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Erie.
