OKMULGEE, Okla. — Johnathan E. “John” Smith, 38, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, formerly of Mound Valley, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, in Okmulgee.
John was born on Jan. 29, 1983, to Jerold “J.D.” Smith and Johnia (Brown) Franklin in Coffeyville. He grew up in Mound Valley, attending Mound Valley Grade School and Labette County High School. He graduated from Oklahoma Union High School and then Tri-County Technical School in Tulsa.
For a time, John was an equipment operator for the Labette County Road and Bridge Department. He was employed as a commercial driver for H.S. Field Services in Dewey, Oklahoma.
His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his son. He also enjoyed playing video games and working.
On Aug. 12, 2002, John and Linda Melton were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Joshua “Shane” Smith of the home; three stepsons, Darren Blasor, Michael Blasor, both of Parsons, and Jason Blasor of Wichita; four grandchildren; his mother, Johnia Franklin of Altamont; his father, J.D. Smith of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; two sisters, Cynthia Kinser of Edna and Julia Bentley of Altamont; two nieces, Virginia Kinser and Ember Kinser; a nephew, Talan Bentley; his maternal grandmother, Darlene Brown of Altamont; and numerous cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by two uncles, Charles Smith and Larry Smith; his maternal grandfather, John Brown; his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Adaline Smith; and his mother-in-law, Kay Melton.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
