Johnny L. Colbert Sr., 68, of rural Parsons passed away at 5:02 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born on June 1, 1952, at Lenapah, Oklahoma, to Willard James and Mary Rose (Nelson) Colbert. He grew up in the South Coffeyville area and attended Lenapah schools.
John held various jobs on farms and in the meatpacking industry before going to work at the Katy Railroad as an engineer. When the Katy Railroad sold, John retired and owned various businesses over the years.
John was a hard-working, self-made man who always invested in his entrepreneurial endeavors. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. John was a “man’s man” and loved to tell stories to make you laugh. He was a man of many talents and was truly a “Jack of all trades.”
John is survived by his son, Johnny L. Colbert II (42) and his wife, Tammy, of Broomfield, Colorado; his daughters, Regina Ingram-Ford (51) of Pueblo, Colorado, Shontell Hudson (50) and her husband, Steven, of Tulsa, Marsha Colbert (49) of Arlington, Texas, Brandi Colbert (40) of Parsons and Darius Golston (25) of Parsons; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Verna Hutchinson of Vinita, Oklahoma, and Mary Colbert of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by four brothers; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Friends may come to the funeral home at their convenience to sign the register.
