CHETOPA — Johnny S. “John” Canada, 80, of Chetopa passed away at 5:38 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at Labette Health. 

Johnny Shephard Canada was born on Dec. 12, 1939, in Cincinnati. As a young man, he settled in Overland Park and worked as a welder. In 1969, he moved to Chetopa. Throughout his career, he was an over-the-road truck driver for several companies.

The greatest joy in his life was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

On Jan. 17, 1967, John and Lucile (Johnson) Dye were united in marriage in Overland Park.

Survivors include his wife, Lucile Canada of the home; three sons, Johnny Canada of Parsons, Jerry Dye of Chetopa and Steve Dye of Galena; two daughters, Freda Conard and Paula Adler, both of Chetopa; seven grandchildren, Laken McKenzie, Riley Conard, Chelsea Adler, Colten Adler, Kayla Canada, Brittni Canada and Rachel Canada; four great-grandchildren, Crosley McKinzie, Callie Conard, Bailey Ann Cook and Bryson Cook; and a brother, Leroy Canada of Grand Junction, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Alan Canada.

A private family service has taken place. Services are under the direction of Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa.
