Ceretha A. ‘Rita’ Rettmann

Ceretha A. “Rita” Rettmann, 66, of Parsons passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at her home. 

Rita was born on April 12, 1956, to Larry Edwin and Barbara Lucille (Gamblian) Troester in Illinois. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Davenport, Iowa. In 1971, she moved with her family to Parsons, where she had lived since.

For over 30 years, Rita worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center.

Rita was an active member of the Parsons Nazarene Church, where she enjoyed participating in the Joy Class. For many years, she was a foster parent. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She also liked to paint and do other crafts.

Survivors include a daughter, Devin Larsen of Parsons; three grandchildren, Lindsay Hearn (Blake), Bryson Mead (Michaela) and Huntley Ayers; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Terry Troester of Parsons; and a sister, Christy Stephens of Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerry Mead Jr.; and a granddaughter, Kacia Mead.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at East Bethany Cemetery outside of Parsons. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Parsons Nazarene Church to benefit the Joy Class. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS, 67357.
