Jim “Jimmy” Phillips, 68, passed from this life at 1:33 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Elmhaven East.
Jim was born May 26, 1952, to John and Abbie (Tice) Phillips at Oswego Hospital. Jim attended and graduated from Oswego schools. Jim was married three times, Marquitta Thompson, Alberta Rowe and Kay Manning. All marriages ended in divorce with no children. Jim lived and worked in Oswego at Atlas Steel, farmed for Paul Hinkle and worked for the city of Oswego. Later he moved to Parsons and worked many years for Individual Mausoleum until his retirement in 2017.
Jim is survived by two sisters, Joyce O’Brien of Chetopa and his twin sister, Janie (Richard) Bateman, of Parsons. He had several nieces and nephews, Terri Kaiser, David Billingsly, Kim Mitchell, Jeff Phillips, Patti Price, Brian Wylie, Kerry Zimmerson, Shelly and Steve Bateman.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Virgil Phillips; and a sister, Nancy Billingsly.
Jim enjoyed fishing, his truck and doing word searches. He loved attending family cookouts especially on your birthday. Most often he would get a good game of dominos going. He listened to older country music and some rock. One of his favorite holidays was Thanksgiving and getting together to eat dinner. He always introduced Janie as his twin and they were both proud of that. He was a good man with a big heart. He would help and do anything for his family and friends. We all loved him and will be sadly missed.
A memorial graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oswego Cemetery with Pastor Tom Heflin officiating.
