Jimmy R. Griggs, 71, of Parsons passed away at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at Oswego Rehab and Health.
Jimmy Ray Griggs was born on Jan. 26, 1948, in Parsons to James and Nina Ruth (Murdock) Griggs. As a young boy he grew up and attended school in Parsons and attended Labette County High School.
He worked for the Katy Railroad and Ruskin Manufacturing Co. Jimmy also owned and operated a mechanic shop, Jim’s Garage. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, watching VHS movies and working on old cars.
In 1968, he and Mary Beth Shea were married. The couple later divorced.
Survivors include a son, Andrew Griggs (Kristen) of Parsons; a daughter, Mandi Griggs (Beverly) of Centerton, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Wesley Griggs, Andrew Griggs Jr., Taylor Vanderford, Knox Griggs and Rebecca Griggs; a great-grandson, Bentley; his mother, Ruth Griggs of Parsons; two sisters, Lynda Davis (John) and Karol Froebe (David), all of Parsons; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Griggs; and his brother, Danny Griggs.
After cremation, burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a later time. Services are under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. There will be a celebration of life at Jimmy’s favorite fishing hole to be announced this spring.
