Derrick M. Beery

Derrick M. Beery, 52, of Parsons passed away at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at his home.  

Derrick Mac Beery was born on May 18, 1970, to Herman Mac and Velma Joyce “Jody” (Braden) Beery in Parsons. As a young boy, he grew up in the Labette City area and attended Bartlett Grade School and Labette County High School.

For 32 years, Derrick was a salesman at the Red Barn, helping people find furniture and appliances. He also sold cars for a time.

His family was the center of his life. He loved playing basketball and enjoyed refereeing and coaching children in basketball.  Watching professional sports was also a favorite pastime, and he was an avid Pittsburg Steelers, Los Angeles Lakers and Kansas City Royals fan.

On Feb. 19, 1999, Derrick married Tina L. Chaney in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his children, Taylor Beery of Parsons, twins Hunter Beachner and Haley Beachner of Dennis and Mikaela Beery of the home; two grandchildren, Eva Koger and Emma Allen; his father, Herman Beery of Parsons; three brothers, Travis Beery and his wife, Carrie, of Parsons, Shane Beery and his wife, Alisha, of Oswego, and Nick Beery and his wife, Michele, of Labette City; a sister, Misty Herring of Topeka; four stepbrothers, Zach Shields of Oswego, Joey Willis of Labette City, Jesse Woodman of Parsons and Mike Willis of Pittsburg; a stepsister, Lindsay Gravelle of Charlotte, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jody Beery; and a cousin, Adam Beery.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Labette Baptist Church in Labette City. Burial will follow at the Labette Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Labette Baptist Church. Friends may also stop by the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to sign the register for Mr. Beery.

The family suggests memorials to help defray funeral expenses. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS, 67357.
