EDNA — Gordon Lee Rexwinkle, 90, Edna, died at 9:05 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2019, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
He was born March 22, 1929, in Altamont to Clifford L. and Opaline (Goodwin) Rexwinkle. His early years were spent in several locations in Labette County, and in 1946 he graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952
On Dec. 18, 1954, he and Eva M. Nelson were married at First Methodist Church in Parsons. Since 1963 they have made their home on a farm at Edna. Gordon retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1985 and farmed throughout his life.
He was a member of Edna United Methodist Church and had been active with the Labette County Fair Board and the Edna Round-Up Club. He loved to compete and attend rodeos.
Survivors are his wife, Eva, of the home; a son, Mike Rexwinkle (Tammy) of Edna; a daughter, Lee Ann Lay (Nick) of Ochelata, Oklahoma; a grandson, Cody Lay of Ochelata, Oklahoma; two sisters, Arlene Miller of Medicine Lodge and Mary Reed (Jerald) of Parsons; a brother, Eugene Rexwinkle (Janet) of Parsons; a sister-in-law, Coleen Rexwinkle of Great Bend; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were brothers Milburn S. Rexwinkle and Darrel Rexwinkle and sister Marjorie Humphrey.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Edna United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nicole Schwartz-Eck officiating. Burial will be in North Edna Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church.
