CHETOPA — William Armstrong, 62, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at the home of his mother, Ida Jameson, in Chetopa.
He was born on Nov. 11, 1958, to Ida Armstrong in Oswego. In 1967, he moved with his family to Chetopa, where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from Chetopa High School, he earned an associate degree from Coffeyville Community College and bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University.
Following college, William settled in Wichita. He worked at different retailers over the years, including Long John Silver’s, Dillard’s, J.C. Penney, Sears and Lens Crafters. He had recently moved back to Chetopa to be closer to family.
He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Wichita. Known for his big heart and generosity, William enjoyed socializing with friends and shopping.
Survivors include his mother, Ida Jameson of Chetopa; and two sisters, Juanita Armstrong-Kepner and her husband, Rick, of Chetopa and Antoinette Armstrong-Prosper of North Little Rock, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Harry Jameson; and a sister, Anita Jameson.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
