ERIE — Joseph Paul Irelan, 20, of Erie passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, near Lawrence.
He was born Sept. 8, 1999, the son of Paul and Mary Jo King Irelan of Erie.
He was a 2017 graduate of Erie High School. Before moving to Erie, he attended school in Las Vegas, Nevada. After graduation he attended Neosho County Community College before enrolling at Ottawa University, where he was a student at the time of his death. Joseph was an outstanding student with exceptional math skills and scored 35 on his ACT test. He was a member of the Erie High School chess club as well as being an avid player of video games with his friends.
Survivors in addition to his parents are his grandmother, Mary Lou Grady King; brothers, David Forsyth and his wife, Catherine, of Erie, George Irelan and his wife, Kim, of Leavenworth, Tim Merrill and his wife, Tracy, of Seattle, Washington, Bill Irelan and his wife, Tracy, of La Vegas, Nevada; three nephews and four nieces; an uncle, Alan King and his wife, Tracy, of Fort Scott; and an aunt, Janice King of Overland Park.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie with the Rev. David Michael Htun officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute at a later date.
