Neil G. Grove, 78, of Parsons died at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, in the Emergency Department at Labette Health. He was able to enjoy one last ride with his wife in his Ford Bronco.

He was born on July 25, 1942, in rural Cherokee County to Lloyd E. and Dorothy Lorene (Beecham) Grove. He first attended Star Country School, then West Mineral Elementary School before graduating from Columbus High School. Following graduation, he farmed with his father. He later moved to St. Louis, where he worked in a sheet metal factory. In 1979, he returned to McCune and worked with his father farming. He also worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center until retiring in 2003.

Neil was a lifelong cowboy, a collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, Harley-Davidson caps and enjoyed his Ford Bronco and pickup truck. 

He was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed spending time with his family.

On Jan. 16, 1965, he married Rita C. Haynes in Worden, Illinois. She survives of the home. 

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Rita Grove, of the home; a daughter, Kelly Ann Malle and her husband, Larry, of Cherokee; three grandchildren, Haley Malle, Jamie Nichole Malle and Brandon Malle and his wife, Jennifer; and a brother, James Grove and his wife, Beverly, of Moore, Oklahoma.

In addition to his parents, Neil was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Lorine Grove, on March 14, 1988.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ, 2900 Briggs, in Parsons. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home to view and sign the register book. The funeral can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page. For all events, wearing masks and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Burial will be at Borland Cemetery in rural Cherokee County.
