CHETOPA — Randy L. Ballard, 72, of Chetopa passed away on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at his home.
Randy Lynn Ballard was born on Nov. 29, 1948, to Thomas and Prudence “Minnie” (Castle) Ballard in Chetopa. As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in Chetopa. He moved with his family to California, where he graduated high school.
From 1968 to 1970, Randy served in the U.S. Army. Following his service, he worked as a cement finisher for a construction company in California. In 1979, Randy returned to Chetopa, where he had lived since. He had worked for Joe Mayfield Construction and at the sale barn.
His greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On July 29, 1978, Randy and Pamela Davis were united in marriage in Sonoma, California. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Angela MacGowan and her husband, Buck, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Alyssa Milstead and her husband, Blake, of Lockney, Texas; three grandchildren, Chase MacGowan and Kaelynn and Kinsley Milstead; two brothers, Richard Ballard of Palm Springs, California, and Denny Ballard of Santee, California; a sister, Dawna Wagner of Columbus; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dogs, Milo and Bella of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tom Ballard; and a sister, Betty Mayfield.
There will be a memorial visitation for Mr. Ballard from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will take place at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery.
