LENEXA — Billy R. “Bill” Moore, 92, of Lenexa and long-time former Parsons resident, passed away at 11:19 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at Sunrise of Lenexa in Lenexa.
Billy Ray Moore was born on Jan. 5, 1931, to Frank and Rosina Johanna (Seifert) Moore in rural St. Paul. He grew up and attended school in the rural Parsons area, graduating from McCune High School in 1949.
From March 1951 to February 1953, Bill was stationed in Germany while serving in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, Bill returned to the Parsons area. He worked at Powell Aubrey’s business and later at Charloma until retiring in 1997.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. He also held memberships in the Katy Golf Club and Brown-Bishop Post 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Parsons. First a family man, Bill also loved to play golf and enjoyed doing woodworking.
On March 7, 1959, Bill married Shirley J. Hedrick in Parsons. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2021.
Survivors include twin daughters, Brenda M. Butcher of Lenexa and Gina R. Ireland of Lenexa; three grandchildren, Taylor Marrisa Ireland, Payton Leonidas Ireland and Breck Moore Butcher; a brother, Jack F. Moore of Topeka; and a sister, Jewell Haney of Houston, Missouri.
Besides his wife, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert L. Moore; and a sister, Rena Shouse.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may sign the register for Mr. Moore from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
The family suggests memorials to Brown-Bishop Post 704, VFW. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS, 67357.
