Shirley J. Moore, 83, of Parsons passed away at 5:14 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Woodridge Estates in Parsons.
Shirley was born Aug. 28, 1937, to H. Glen and Julia Grace (Crown) Hedrick. She grew up in rural Altamont and attended school there. In 1954, Shirley graduated from Labette County Community High School. At age 16, Shirley began her career at the Parsons Sun as a bookkeeper for Clyde Reed. Over the years, she was promoted numerous times, eventually becoming the office manager at the Parsons Sun until her retirement in 1999 after 45 years. Shirley then worked for the city of Parsons for over 10 years.
She enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir at Wesley United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed quilting and being with her family and friends.
Shirley married Bill R. Moore on March 7, 1959, in Parsons. They had celebrated 62 years together earlier this month.
Survivors include her husband, Bill, of the home; twin daughters, Brenda M. Butcher and Gina R. Ireland, both of Lenexa; three grandchildren, Taylor Marissa Ireland, Payton Leonidas Ireland and Breck Moore Butcher; a brother, G. David Hedrick (Linda) of Altamont; and three sisters, Dorothy Breneman of Altamont, Betty Oler of Wichita and Bethel Posey of El Dorado.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Cornett.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Pat McReynolds officiating. Friends may call to sign the book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
