Vida Jean Muhs Halbeck Daetwiler, 100, of Parsons passed away at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Neodesha at the Morningstar Care Home.
Jean was born on June 27, 1922, in the family’s farmhouse, south of Vayland, South Dakota, to Mabel Verena Lee and Henry William Muhs.
Jean grew up in South Dakota and North Dakota and graduated from Wessington High School in 1940.
She met Maurice Halbeck while attending college at Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and they were married in 1942. Maurice passed away in a swimming accident in 1944.
Jean married Alvin Lee Daetwiler Jr. on May 20, 1948, in Manhattan. Alvin served as the minister of Central Avenue Christian Church, now known as First Christian Church, in Parsons. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2013.
Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda Buckles and her husband, Doug Sr., of Independence, Deborah (Debbie) Depew and her husband, Doug, of Neodesha and Kyla Daetwiler of Parsons.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.
The family suggests memorials to The PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) or First Christian Church and they may be left at or mailed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS, 67357.
