PITTSBURG — Merle Markley, 89, of Pittsburg passed away at 2:39 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2021, at Medicalodge South of Pittsburg.
He was born July 25, 1931, at rural McCune the son of Perry and Vetra (Boore) Markley.
On Nov. 6, 1949, he married Marvella E. Davis at Parsons Church of Christ. She survives of the home in Pittsburg.
Mr. Markley worked as an owner/operator in many different fields, including farming and cattle ranching, coal mining, farm implement dealer and he flew private air planes. Mr. Markley liked to travel, and he and his wife had been to 49 states as well as traveled internationally to Israel, Egypt, Bermuda, Bahamas and Canada.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Pittsburg. He also served on the McCune school board.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Darrel Markley (Sheila) of Pittsburg; two daughters, Valerie Harris (Alan) of Luray, Virginia, and Vicki Younger (Steven) of Branson, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Brian Markley, Brad Markley Sr., Amanda Williams, Lisa Shaffer, Clint Harris, Natalie Glaser, Mitchell Harris, Julianna Harris, Alec Harris, Rachel Herrera and Andrea Waldrop; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Pendleton of Pittsburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marie Satzler.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at the McCune City Cemetery, McCune.
