Genevieve S. Aikins, 104, of Liberty, Missouri, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at a Liberty, Missouri, nursing facility.
She was born July 30, 1915, to Alfred D. and Sigrid (Nystrom) Jordan of Savonburg. She graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1938.
In 1940, she and Robert V. Aikins were married on her family farm. They had four children and moved to Oxford in 1944.
She and Robert operated the Oxford Register newspaper for 15 years and then began careers as school teachers in Oxford and later in Kingman. Upon retirement as educators, they worked several years at Silver Dollar City. Robert died in 1981.
Genevieve then began touring the world, visiting all the continents except for Antarctica. She had been on the Great Wall of China, inside the Great Pyramid of Egypt, up the Nile River and down the Amazon River. They were truly wonderful experiences.
Genevieve, “GG,” is survived by three children, Helen Diklich of Liberty, Missouri, David Aikins of Springfield, Missouri, and Dale Aikins of Carl Junction, Missouri. A son, Terry, preceded her in death. She had 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
No service is planned.
