Joe Richard ‘Richie’ Fultz

ALTAMONT — Joe Richard “Richie” Fultz, 77, of rural Altamont passed away at 7:54 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin while holding the hand of his beloved wife, Dorothy (Tate) Fultz, who survives of the home.

Joe was born on Sept. 25, 1943, in Parsons to Herbert and Irene (Anderson) Fultz. He attended school at Altamont, graduating in 1961.

Joe married Karen Brink in 1966. They divorced in 1979, with no children. He then married Dorothy (Tate) Morrison on May 4, 1985. Although he had no biological children, he claimed Dorothy’s as his own. He worked for Mountain Bell phone company in Lamar, Colorado, later transferring home to Southwestern Bell/ATT, where he retired in 1986 after 20 years. He spent his retirement farming the family land.

Joe enjoyed many activities as a young farm boy. One of his favorites was a bronco rider. He obtained many belt buckles during those events. Anyone who met him did not soon forget — although slow to speak, his wit was quick and his humor his own. Joe loved his hometown of Altamont and enjoyed visiting with neighbors or meeting with “the guys” for coffee in town.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by a son, Curtis J. Morrison of Coffeyville, grandchildren Beau Morrison and his fiancé, Breena Ambrose, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Nick Morrison of Coffeyville and great-grandson Alex; a daughter, Tammie (Morrison) Byrd and her husband, Franklin Jr., of Coffeyville and grandchildren Joshua Elliott of Independence, Missouri, Morgan (Elliott) Gibson and her husband, Danny, and a grandson soon to arrive of Joplin and Chelsey (Byrd) Clark of Coffeyville; his brother, Bill Fultz and his wife, Nancy, of Wichita; a nephew, Kirk Fultz and his wife, Jean, of Orlando, Florida; a niece, Pat Fultz of Topeka; and numerous cousins and other family.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Irene; father, Herbert Fultz; a brother, Robert Paul Fultz; a nephew, Kevin Fultz; and a daughter-in-law, Tamera Morrison.

The memorial graveside service will be at 2 p.m. March 3 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont with Pastor Steve Crawford officiating. Burial will follow the service.

Memorials are suggested to the Labette County High School FFA and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 112. N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
