Wilma Jean Boss, 96, of Parsons passed away at 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at Elmhaven in Parsons.
She was born on Aug. 24, 1925, in Fredonia to Ray Nathan and Leni Mae (Gillies) Clifton. She grew up in Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1944.
Jean came to Parsons in 1950 and worked for Kress’s 5 & 10 for a year. She then worked at Hallmark until 1956. She was employed by Howard Frame at Frame Office Equipment Co. beginning in the gift inventory department until 1960 when she transferred to the office supply part of the business. She and her husband, Gailord, bought the business in 1971 and operated it until 1991, when they sold it to their son, Doug Boss.
Jean was an avid bridge and card player. She enjoyed traveling. She especially loved cooking and spending time with her family and weekends at their home on Grand Lake. She was a member of First Christian Church and a past member of Parsons Business and Professional Women’s Association and the Coterie Club.
She married Gailord L. Boss on Sept. 23, 1945, in Parsons. He preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2013.
Survivors include two sons, Doug Boss and his wife, Susie, of Parsons and Ron Boss and his wife, Tammy, of Wichita; seven grandchildren, Nichola Tippett, Tracey Ingleman, Kelley Surma, Stephen Boss and his wife, Jordan, Corbett Boss and his wife, Ashley, Tyler Boss and his wife, Nicole, and Ryan Boss and his wife, Jenna; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her son, Gary Boss; a daughter-in-law, Rena Boss; and two brothers, James “Jim” Clifton and Harold “Hal” Clifton.
The graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery Patio with the Rev. Laurie Lewis officiating. Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to First Christian Church and may be left at or mailed to the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS, 67357.
