Patricia A. Stephenson

MARYVILLE, Ill. — Patricia A. Stephenson, 76, of Maryville, Illinois, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023. 

Pat was born in Parsons on Oct. 21, 1946, the eldest daughter of Leonard and Vera (Richardson) Aronhalt. After graduation from high school, she attended Baker University in Baldwin City and in 1996 completed a bachelor of arts degree at Emporia State University in Emporia. 

She married John (Jack) Stephenson on July 2, 1966. They then moved to Lawrence, where Jack completed his college education. Pat worked at Hallmark Cards while in Lawrence. Pat and Jack moved to El Dorado after Jack graduated from college.  Pat’s primary focus was on the family but she also worked at the Council for Special Services and the First Baptist Church Day Care while residing in El Dorado. Following Jack’s retirement, they moved to Maryville, Illinois. Pat worked for a time at the Maryville YMCA, involved with the YMCA before- and after-school latchkey program for children. Jack survives of the home. 

Pat was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville. She was active in PEO and was involved with making her own greeting cards.

In addition to her husband Jack, she is survived by a son, Greg Stephenson of Terre Haute, Indiana; five grandchildren; and her a sister, Donna McDonough of Bellevue, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Hauser. 

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pat McReynolds officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday. 

The family suggests memorials to the Parsons Area Community Foundation and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS, 67357.
