Mr. Jerry Lee Houghton was born on Sept. 10, 1947, in Parsons and passed away Feb. 13, 2019, at the Kansas City Hospice House.
He bravely fought his battle with cancer using his unique sense of humor to face every challenge while maintaining his positive good nature that he was known for.
He grew up in rural Erie and was a graduate of Erie High School. Following graduation, he served with distinction for several years in the U.S. Navy on a nuclear submarine, traveling to ports of call around the world. Committed to his wife and children, he left the Navy and worked in operations for several years at Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant. He finished his distinguished career working for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Savannah River Site.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Houghton and Louise McAdams Houghton; and his wife of 42 years, Patricia McBride Houghton. Together they created a legacy that included several children and grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his four children, Larry Houghton, Dustin Lockwood, Melissa Houghton Edwards and Christina Houghton Moore; five grandchildren, Taylor Edwards, Bri Anna Houghton, Tyler Edwards, Devin Moore and Amaya Lockwood; and a stepgrandson, Christopher Moore. He is also survived by his second wife, Teresa Welch Brazil Houghton.
