Garth Brooks concert to be aired in rural Edna pasture

Country music icon Garth Brooks will be performing on screens in 300 drive-in venues across the United States at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27, including two screens set up north of Edna. Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster (

Walter Kinzie, formerly of Edna, is organizing the concerts and is planning other concerts for country stars in the coming weeks, according to his father, Brian Kinzie.

Venues for the Brooks concert will include drive-in theaters, including drive-ins in Wichita (Starlite Twin Drive-in, 3900 S. Hydraulic St.) and Dodge City (South Drive-in, 1019 E. McArtor Road). Two screens will be set up in a pasture owned by the Kinzie family a mile north of Edna. The site is on 6000 Road east of K-101, the highway that goes into Edna (6000 Road is a mile north of the north Edna city limits).

The concert is pre-recorded in Nashville and will be played for one night only. Brooks announced the concert on “Good Morning America.”

Walter Kinzie’s company, Encore Live, is organizing the show and future shows, his father said.

Tickets are $100 per vehicle (limit six persons per vehicle) and the event will take place rain or shine. The venues will follow health measures in a family friendly atmosphere, Brian Kinzie said. Electronic tickets will be scanned from concert-goers’ phones to limit contact between the public and venue workers.

Those attending the concert will be able to listen to the music on vehicle radios, or portable radios, via a temporary FM transmitter at each venue, Brian Kinzie said. He said there’s room for 300 to 500 vehicles on the acreage. Labette County FFA will help direct drivers to their parking places for the concert.

While most concerts have been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, performers have found other avenues to play music for their audiences. This is another avenue that should be a safe venue if concert-goers follow recommendations to stay in their vehicles during the event, Brian Kinzie said.
