ALTAMONT — Track and field season got underway at the Labette County Invitational on Thursday in Altamont. It served as the first meet for most teams in attendance since the 2019 season after the 2020 season was canceled amid the initial outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chanute took first place as a team in the boys and girls standings to sweep the meet.

Labette County finished second in both the boys and girls standings as well.

For the Grizzlies’ boys, Alex Meister took first place in the 800m run with a time of 2:12. Meister also took first with a time of 10:37 in the 3200m run.

Russell McCarty took first place in the 110m hurdles (15.87) and the 300m hurdles (44.74). Hunter Schaplowski took second in the 300m hurdles (47.05). 

Labette County’s boys 400m relay team of Clayton Wagner, Schaplowski, Austin Ourada and Hayden McClenning took fourth place with a time of 48.18 seconds.

The 1600m relay team of Meister, Schaplowski, McCarty and McClenning took third (3:49.83) while the 3200m relay squad of Zavier Philips, Robert Tobel, Tyler Moore and Blake Cashman was fifth (10:28).

Schaplowski finished in fourth place in the discus (107’11”). Phillips finished sixth in the high jump (5’2”) and Wagner took fifth (5’2”). 

Noah Grady took third place in the boys javelin (130’10”) while Tyler Lewis took fourth (129’6”).

For the Labette County girls, Jasmine Perez finished in sixth place in the 100m dash (13.55) and fifth in the 400m dash (1:08). Ava Alloway took sixth in the 400m dash (1:09).

Nevaeh Jones took sixth in the 800m run (2:55). Heather Mellington took fourth in the 1600m run (6:50) while Elyse Clevenger finished in fifth (7:20).

In the girls 3200m run, Gracie Gatton finished second (14:25) while Lilly Ghering finished fourth (15:35).

Alice Carnahan finished in fourth in the 300m hurdles (57.27).

In the girls 1600m relay, Labette County’s team of Allee Martin, Libby Pool, Tori Steelman and Perez finished third (4:49). The 3200m relay team of Jones, Mellington, Pool and Steelman took second place (11:57).

Aidan Ratzlaff claimed first place in the long jump (16’4”) and second in the triple jump (33’5”) while Lauren Forbes took sixth in the long jump (14’7.5”) and triple jump (29’10”). 

Elsie Sorrell got first in the shot put (34’11”) and fourth in the discus (86’11”). 

In the girls high jump, Ratzlaff finished second (4’10”).

The Parsons boys finished sixth in the team standings with 47 points.

Aidan Wheat took fourth place in the boys 400m dash (56.14). Marion Ryan took second place in the 110m hurdles (16.85).

The Parsons boys 1600m relay team of Malachi Gatewood, Cameron Kendrick, Wheat and Gannon Friess finished in fifth place (4:06) while the 3200m relay squad of Brayden Casper, Wehat, Axl Ramirez and Cameron Day took fourth (10:12).

Ryan took sixth place in the long jump (18’10.25”) and first place in the triple jump (38’3”) and high jump (5’10”).

Isiah Tyson took second place in the javelin (134’3”).

The Parsons girls finished in fifth place in the team standings with 46 points.

In the girls 200m dash, Anna Ecoff took fourth place (28.65) while Kinsey Baldwin placed fourth in the 400m dash (1:08) and fourth in the 800m run (2:53).

In the 3200m run, Anna Prazakova took third place (14:41). Gracen Friess took second place in the 100m hurdles (16.50) and first in the 300m hurdles (51.46).

Iniya Hinman took fourth in the long jump (15’3”) and third in the triple jump (32’4”).

The Cherryvale boys team finished in third place with 70 points at the Labette County meet.

Quinton Greif took fifth place in the 100m dash (11.40) and second in the 200m dash (23.24).

Trevin Dawes claimed fourth in the 3200m run (11:50). The Cherryvale boys 400m relay team of Jesse Booe, Greif, TJ Monroy and Devin Sawyer finished in fifth place (48.37). 

Bryce Sallee claimed first place in the shot put (44’7.5”) while Rayden Wright took fifth (38’11”). Sallee also got first in the discus (133’6.5”) and Wright got second (114’0.5”).

TJ Monroy finished third in the triple jump (37’) and fourth in the high jump (5’6”) while Briggs Adkison placed third in the high jump (5’10”).

Trey Leedy also finished second in the pole vault (9’6”).

Finally for the Cherryvale girls, who took sixth as a team with 42 points, Bethany Umbarger took third in the 200m dash (28.58) and second in the 400m dash (1:03).

Umbarger also finished third in the long jump (15’5”).

Mariah Monroy, the defending Class 3A state champion in the triple jump, got first at Labette County with a leap of 34’11.5”. 

Kobi Pearson finished second in discus (89’7”) while Kelsi Lantz finished fifth (81’5”). Lantz also got sixth in the high jump (4’6”). Pearsons got sixth place in the javelin (84’8”).
