OSWEGO — The Labette County Commission on Tuesday approved a resolution creating a county equipment reserve fund for vehicles for the Labette County Sheriff’s Office.
“By doing this it allows them to just put excess funds here, whether it be rollover, which we would have to approve, or the sale of vehicles,” said Commissioner Cole Proehl.
“I think we’re all on board,” said Commissioner Vince Schibi.
“I think so too,” said Commissioner Terry Weidert.
According to the resolution, the fund will be used for financing, purchasing and using money from vehicle sales to be returned to the fund for future purchases of vehicles for the department.
Commissioners also provided an update on a trip to Northeast Kansas last week to look at rock crushers. Proehl asked how the trip went as he wasn’t able to attend. Weidert and Schibi visited a rock quarry south of Topeka. They also traveled to the new Panasonic battery plant in De Soto and looked at the company’s rock crushers. Commissioners will travel to Emporia on Thursday to see more rock crushers. This is so they can see what is available before deciding on a purchase for the county. Schibi said the visit to Panasonic was enlightening. Schibi and Weidert said there were three crushers working side by side there.
Appraiser DeLinda White spoke with commissioners about a plat book Tuesday, which is a map that shows the townships and parcel lines in the county.
“It puts, you know, each little township together and then it has a glossary in the back that has all the names and their addresses and stuff and everything in there,” White said. “They’re really nice books.”
The last one was completed in 2019, White said. Mapping Solutions will create the plat book.
Commissioners approved this action to get the plat books created.
Each book costs $20 to make. The county usually charges $30 to a taxpayer who comes in to buy one.
“So we get a little bit back on it, so it’s just like it pays for itself,” White said.
“So we just got to pay upfront and then as you sell them we start recouping our money?” Schibi asked.
The county also gets a free wall map to display in the office. People can also buy a wall map.
