On Tuesday, Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents, along with the Parsons Police Department and the Labette County Sheriff’s Office, arrested two Parsons residents following an investigation and the execution of a search warrant.
Officers and agents arrested Vincent S. Janssen Jr., 56, and Melissa L. Oja, 50, both of Parsons.
Both were arrested on suspicion of two counts of possession of opiates with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property, possession of cocaine, possession of sale drug paraphernalia, possession of use paraphernalia and criminal possession of a firearm.
At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop and executed a search warrant at 1720 Dirr Ave. in Parsons. Pills believed to contain fentanyl were located at the residence. Also discovered were cocaine, methamphetamine, drug use paraphernalia and drug sale paraphernalia.
The two were booked into the Labette County Jail. Formal charges are pending.
Lincoln School is nearby, as is St. Patrick Catholic School. Lincoln School, in an abundance of caution, did not allow students outside for morning recess and dismissed preschool students from the west side of the school instead of the east side, which was closer to the property on Dirr that was being searched.
The police department had notified Lincoln of the event.
