THAYER — An event that began in 1911 will continue this year Friday through Monday.
Thayer Homecoming, with the theme of “Blue Jeans and Country Dreams,” will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday with the crowning of the queen at the band shell in the park. Queen candidates are Lydiah Gutierrez, Nyllegh Sallee, Shelby Raida, Bethany Umbarger, Ashlynn DeCoster, Morgan Babcock and Riley Hicks.
The crowning will be followed by a baby contest at 6:30 p.m., with registration at 6 p.m. The traditional free watermelon feed will start at 7 p.m. Friday, with a seed-spitting contest set for 7:15 p.m. A food auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by bingo in the home economics building.
The first night’s events will close with cow patty bingo at 8:15 p.m. at the arena and karaoke and dance with Side Project from 9 p.m. to midnight.
8 a.m. — Car show in the park, pinewood derby car races at band shell
9 a.m.-2 p.m. — Quilt show at Senior Citizen Building
11 a.m. — Parade (lineup at 10:30 a.m. by school)
Noon — Kids rodeo and games at arena
2 p.m. — Cornhole tournament on east side of arena (registration will begin at 1:30 p.m.)
4 p.m. — Thayer alumni reception at Community Building in park
5:30-7 p.m. — Amateur Hour
7 p.m. — Draft horse pull at arena
9 p.m.-1 a.m. — Mike Love Band and Jackson Taylor and the Sinners
10:15 a.m. — Community church service by Thayer Christian Church at band shell
1 p.m. — Bass tournament (registration at 5:30 p.m. at band shell)
6 p.m. — ATV shodeo at arena (registration at 5:30 p.m.)
11 a.m.-1 p.m. — Youth fishing tournament (ages 0 to 15) at New Lake in Thayer
