A Labette County jury Thursday found no fault in a 2016 vehicle versus horse accident.
The jury deliberated in a Labette County District Court civil suit filed by David Bierbrodt Jr. and Steven McKinney against Stephen Regis alleging negligence for allowing horses to escape. Shortly before midnight Nov. 19, 2016, Bierbrodt was northbound on K-101. As he crested a hill, his pickup struck two of four horses that escaped from Regis’ nearby pasture. Bierbrodt and McKinney, his passenger, suffered injuries and complained of lingering effects from the accident that have impacted their lives. Regis checked fences often and his attorneys argued the collision was simply an accident.
Jurors began hearing testimony on Tuesday and the trial concluded Thursday.
