CHETOPA — Fire destroyed a Chetopa house late Wednesday morning.

Chetopa firefighters were called at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday to a two-story house at Ninth and Plum.

Chetopa Fire Chief Brian Midgett said flames were showing on the front porch when firefighters arrived. Oswego, Bartlett and Welch, Oklahoma, firefighters were called to assist.

Midgett said firefighters had the fire pretty much out in 45 minutes.

The Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office was called, but its investigator could not determine the cause of the fire.

The house is owned by Joe Blundell, and he and his family were at work at the time of the fire, Midgett said. The house is considered a total loss.
