OSWEGO — A Parsons man pleaded no contest Thursday to two counts of aggravated battery, the conviction for which will require him to serve time in prison.
Garyl L. Allen, 31, 1438 S. 25th, was charged in Labette County District Court with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, possession of cocaine, aggravated battery, criminal possession of a firearm and theft of a firearm, all felonies.
Parsons police were called at 4:16 a.m. Aug. 16, 2019, to Mendota Creek Apartments for a possible hostage situation. People were leaving the apartment when police arrived and Allen allegedly ran to a nearby tree line before complying with an officer’s order to come out.
Police found a black semi-automatic pistol in the tree line and a propane torch in the apartment that allegedly was used on the victim. Officers also found cocaine and a stolen handgun in Allen’s car.
He pleaded no contest to two counts of aggravated battery, one a mid-level felony and the other a lower-level felony. One of the original charges was amended to mid-level aggravated battery.
Allen could face a prison term in the case. Sentencing will be April 15.
